and the thread drifts back on course.

One of my all time fave bands, the sfx in this clip is exemplary !

Edit: actually I just watched that and youtube flash encoding fucked it up royally. The smooth transitions and seemless integration in the original is replaced by hard cuts and jerky melding. Youtube you fucken suck for that.

Ta-Da .... officially doesn't support the revision of smf we're running but a couple of code tweaks later, presto.

Just for you Les.

THE SHOTGUN BAR / Do you wear reading glasses ? Which kind ?
« on: March 06, 2014, 07:27:35 AM »

I do. Ever since I cracked 40 I've needed glasses for up close work, especially if:

a) The light is bad.
b) The print is small.
c) Fine repair work of any description.

It actually shits me no end. At my 38yo eye exam the doc remarked that I had 30/20 vision in both eyeballs. I asked him what that meant and he told me I had 20/20 but with high power long vision as well. At 45 now I can still see very well at distance and peripheral but up close its a lesson in frustration at body deterioration.

So to the question I ask you my fellow Knucks:

Do you guys wear the cheapo $6.00 reading specs found at gas stations, chemists and corner stores or the exxy ones from an optometrist ?  I always wore Trent Nathan brand frames until they went missing a few months back. I've had those ones for 5 yrs now and they're excellent build quality. They have those little springs that stop you from over bending the arms outwards and the frame metal itself is like spring steel so I can accidentally bend them / step on them / drop them / etc etc and they just bounce right back into shape. Awesome. Dudeproof glasses !

When they went missing I was not in a position to fork out huge bucks for the kind of replacement I needed so I tried out the cheapo ones. Let me say the quality varies really bloody wildly with those. I bought several of them from (at 6 bucks a pair it was cheap to compare):

1. Supermarket - Lens was ok. Not great but ok. Had blurry fringing around peripheral.
2. Servo - Surprise pick of the bunch. Excellent lens with no distortion.
3. Chemist - More expensive by 200% than the others and lens quality on par with Supermarket ones.
4. Cheapo Shop - Disgustingly bad. Lens was blurry and cloudy ... eecchhhh !!

Frames: All the cheapo ass specs had either brittle plastic or malleable metal frames. The hinges are really nasty but will snap under misuse before the pins fall out. Metal frames seem to take a few hits, just bend them back into shape (done this about 5 times now with one pair and I'm guessing metal fatigue failure is just around the corner). Plastic frames are weak as piss - sit on them / step on them / let them get crunched in a bag full of stuff and they are history. They will take being dropped onto concrete from 6' though.

So what's your experience with specs  ?

For starters he's a fuckwit for thinking military service makes him tough / important / desirable. Ask anyone who's done it for the truth.

It makes you an outcast, skews your view of reality and strangles you because in your world its ok to blow away threats but in civvy world you can't unless you want all the bum sex you can handle in prison.

Sad but true and its where we fail our servicemen  /servicewomen as a 1st world country.

For me its single combat closely followed by working with stone or metal and understanding machines.

Had many ppl tell me I'd done it before when I hadn't etc and also felt a huge predilection towards those things my whole life.

Vinyl also contains a shitload of 20khz - 40khz signal as well (as long as the record has only had a few plays, it gets wiped off pretty much after that).

I remember brand new LPs hurting my ears with super high freqs when i was a young kid and the same records not hurting after a dozen plays or so. We played them on a valve HMV rig so it wasn't a crap system buggering the records or introducing shitty harmonics.
