For the guys who like to cook...
« on: September 17, 2014, 01:59:09 PM »
 :)

I have put together a new forum that stems from an Aussie barbecue forum.

The guys who setup the old forum are Aussies and they love to barbecue but they aren't exactly tech savy and they admit that.

Chris asked me to help out with putting together a new forum and after some instances of wanting to pull out the hair that I don't have I FINALLY have it up and running.

I expanded the new forum from just barbecue to cooking in general, as well as drinks and just general chit chat.

I went live with it about an hour ago and so not exactly much going on there at the moment but I'm confident it will get a lot of interest.

For anybody here who wants to check it out, here's the link.

Just out of curiosity, what did you say to trigger an auto ban?

It is, as I said just out of curiosity. I deleted the ban and so please try again.

Nah,

I think a max of four people would have seen the post, me, Jamie, the two site admins, one of them already chatted to, he was amused more than anything.

I deleted your user name so just pick a new one, read the very simple rules and come have a bit of fun with food.

It' as Jamie said a brand new site, still getting sorted out but a lot of promise :)

Yeah you are more than welcome and Chris and I have both explained that you're a friend who we've known for a longtime. You just need to realize the cooking forum isn't the virtual pub this place is and so the rules are a bit different.

I hope you enjoy it. I thought I had removed all of the ban triggers but apparently not. Either that or one of the mods decided to "help" by reapplying them. Either way glad to have you.

Yeah, I just had a look and that's what happened. Somebody decided I needed their help and reinstated the ban triggers. All removed now.

I'd removed the handle - must have happened before I did so.

I don't know but the next time somebody reinstates a ban that I had both removed and explained that fuknKIWI is a good guy, a friend of ours and just made an honest mistake they are going to be the ones getting banned or at the very least have their mod rights taken away.

That entire thing was just a ridiculous over reaction and while you accused me of not listening they are the ones who seem to have been born with cotton in their ears.

Chris and I just had a long phone chat about the forum and we agree that it just needs time to gel and again, I hope you'll give it a chance.

I'd agree that many chefs can be crazy as hell but the guys over there aren't chefs. They are evening and weekend barbecues but do something completely different by day.

Again, just give it a chance.

There are not so many BBQ chefs, but there are quite a number of BBQ fanatics as I discovered last year - all I was doing was looking for a few clues on using my Weber Q after never really having had much to do with gas bbq, always been the kettle but that is one heck of a process for food for two :)

They are one very entertaining but as I told Jamie pretty much all what could be called working class mob, part of what makes it so entertaining really - you'll see when they start posting their antics :)

To give a minor taste, ghetto smoking and oil pressure cooking, WTF!!! :)

In case you miss the last bit, my immediate thought on the latter was IED...

The person who does that is very, very responsible and went to great pains to dissuade people from EVER doing it unless they really know what they are doing. Regardless I think I can live without the drama just to replicate original recipe Col Sanders :)

I do actually have a surplus pressure cooker but I don't have a pass to a live fire range just now :)

Just a different group of nutcases, you should fit right in Kiwi :)

A stove top pressure cooker is one of the few cooking toys I want that I want that I don't have.

Also, while I don't have one I have looked at the outdoor oil ones and at least here they generally use propane.

Put that all together and yeah, unless you really know what you're doing and are paying attention, the next thing you know you'll be burned to a crisp, standing at the pearly gates with saint peter asking, what the fuck happened to you?

I'm not even aware that you can buy oil pressure cookers here, maybe but if memory serves the one used is not dedicated to the task.

Pressure cookers can be great, the modern ones are about as safe as it gets, when using water, just the thought of oil at those temps and pressure has me in run-away mode :)

If I were getting a new pressure cooker though I'd be looking at an electric one, weren't around when I got mine, they make very good sense.

Hmm,

We possibly have the Presto here, not seen it, most pressure cookers sold in Oz are European. Not to many folks here live at altitude so that's not such a factor.

The other fryers no, never seen them, but I'd have no interest in frying a turkey anyway :) Don't see that they are oil pressure cookers though, those things are very much a rarity outside of commercial.

Sort of understandable, the whole concept is just bloody dangerous. A place in the city here has one, it's inside a blast container with interlocks, only way they could get it approved. My understanding is that the fast food places like KFC the chicken is pre-cooked under pressure away from the outlets and shipped in frozen. Makes sense, who would trust the kids in those places to not blow the place up :)

This is another example of what's available here.

If you know how to weld, which I don't beyond maybe a minor repair of something but if you do,  you could build your own.
