Its still 404 ing

Try checking your PHP version serverside, upgrade it if you can. Sometimes it can disappear in action and your PHP version will return nil or not installed. If they upgraded the server your site is on shit can happen.

Also HG has a great tech support, try opening a chat and ticket with a techie from their home page.

Also I'd check the file permissions serverside of all your forum files. If one of those got borked from a crappy mod it'll throw errors. In this scenario your files havn't gone anywhere or been corrupted, rather the server is preventing access from the index.php script to the database backend.

Also I'd try uploading and then logging onto        repair_settings.php              remember to delete afterwards for security. Get it from the link here: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php

Cheers.

As I've said, I'm aware of the problem and I'm going to try to take a deeper look at it today and if I can't figure out I'll open a help ticket but have you dealt with Hostgator support lately?

They are a long way away from being terrible but also not as great as they were a few years back. At least that has been my experience of late.

Yeah, I know. Some technical issues but it WILL be back and you will be an admin if you want.  :-*

Thanks Richo. It may be a few days but I fully intend to get it back up and running.

Something else you could do to help me, when you have time, no rush at all but I'd appreciate if you'd stick your head in here.

These are Aussie guys who I would like to recruit for my new forum but they are taking me the wrong way. You are Aussie to the core and so maybe you can help me a bit there.

:)

Maybe.

Jamie did rile up the boys at Aussie Q somewhat Richo, long story short the forum is on Proboards and the guy who created it is not by his own admission very IT literate. I suggested get the forum re-done on SMF, by Jamie. What Jamie did was create Southern Thunder and it was not to their liking so they stayed put. Then a few did join, there were some cross words as Jamie's famous temper got the better of him and they most all left. Then ST went down and Jamie is waiting for the dust to settle a bit.

I've been on AQ for a while and am an admin - nice bunch of bbq fanatics, a bit strait-laced but know what they are doing.

When ST comes back up some may join, depends if the content interests them then, whereas if the original plan had worked all the content of AQ would have been moved over and AQ put into stasis.

I really don't see that happening now but it may in time, as the saying goes what we had was a serious ability to communicate :)

Cheers

As I told you on the phone, I think I need to spend a bit more time hanging out on their current forum first and I think having some Aussie blokes on my side could help a LOT.

I won't deny that I have a short fuse, but if you think I have a short fuse now, you should have known me 20 years ago...

Just about to start my work cycle, will check them out 4 days from now Jamie.

I'll also add that ppl will shy away from anything you create no matter how good if you scare them off.

Sure.  Why not.  Joined up.  After all.  I start my 'bacon curing journey' today.

Got Cure #1.  Got salt.  Got Sugar.  Got 4kg of pork belly.

What could possibly go wrong?

I was wondering about the possibility of bringing this site back to life as a memorial to Jamie?
Is it possible?
What would it take?

That's an interesting idea, he really did manage to cause some upset over that but people were interested and the guys at AussieQ still are in improving their site.

Shall have a think on it.

It would be a piece of piss for me to hook up another forum on DW's bandwidth. Brand spanker shiny SMF board.

However I'm time poor so someone would have to put their hand up to admin it etc.

I'll put up the infrastructure if someone can put in the time and I'll help out with graphics and shit too.

Hey mate, definitely way past time you dropped by for a chat :)

Unfortunately no, ST crashed and burned big, big time, it wasn't quite what the blueprint said any way but Jamie did do a thorough job of burying it :)

Richo has the full background, think we can do something suitable to remember Tennessee :)

hey fellas, I'm the owner of AussieCue,
First up, I Liked Jamie and was gutted at his passing.  Our ideas just didn't gel for a new forum and try as I did, The members would not take to it.
But to Jamie's  credit, after all his work of making "His forum" , He still stuck around my pissy cooking forum. And I got to like him.

Kiwi, It was me that banned you but only in the first instance. I  honestly thought you were just a kid making trouble while on school holidays.  Had No Idea who you were and my understanding At the time , as well as my requirement with Jamie was that ST was to be G rated. Not because I'm a prude but purely a pre planned forum type that I had envisaged.
So I'm sorry about that.
The communication was crazy and it was obvious Jamie realy wanted his own cooking forum and I respected that and stayed on as a non moderator and gave links back to my forum .
But the fellas just didn't like it, It was too seppo.  One comment from a gun cook was, " If  I want to join a yank forum  I will, But I want an Aussie forum".  he was my best cook so I had to just close the idea down and hope that, In time my new mate Jamie would see it and maybe we could go again.  And then he died

If you've read the whole thread Mick then you just saw the mirror image of what we grappled with from the AQ/ST side back then, you also received a bit of an intro to the dudes and saw the side of our mate Jamie that pretty much caused the issue. :)

He was one heck of a good friend to us all, thinking back it was actually me who introduced him around, but I always did think that a course in lion taming was not a bad idea if you planned to "negotiate" with him :)

You may have also noticed that oil pressure cooking was discussed - that's your thing in the pursuit of perfect DIY KFC if  you wanted to expand I think the guys would be interested.

You don't have to worry about them being responsible, there are members here who think playing with pure sodium and a reservoir in the depths of night is fun  rofl rofl rofl

You and me both mate, for reasons expressed, it has always sort of reminded me of the researchers messing around with the Michelson-Morley theories of evolution:

"So we put his primordial soup in a retort and then we created some lightning."

"What happened?"

"Well there was a big bang, we wrecked the lab but when we cleaned up we had some DNA we created man! TOTALLY worth it!!"

"You take any precautions?"

"Uh, yeah, we turned our backs before we hit the switch."

"But you weren't hurt?"

"Man, lab was in Kansas, we was in California  :) "

Smokey does his thing in the same room, but I'll let him explain :)

Hmm,  I wouldn't  advocate anyone doing it.
There are multiple things one must do  to have it in a semblance of safe zone.

Things like;
The right pressure cooker
The right pressure blowout system, In new condition.
The right top hob (no flame)
The right level of oil  only an inch and a half  at the bottom of a large pot.
Knowing how to control the temp and adjust the hob at the right time
Knowing what the pressure is at all times

TO my knolege, there are only two pressure cookers that are made for pressure frying. One made by maGafesta and one by  Fagor.   None are available in OZ.  I don't do it very often .Last time would be a year ago or when I was showing off in that post.  The post also didn't show the welders PPE I was wearing.
At the time I was determined to copy the original pre mid eightys original flavour and was part of the kfc forum that spent ten years trying. They came up with it alright.  I learned about the dangers of pressure frying there. Once I nailed it I lost interest and moved on. Too dangerous ;zx

That's right you were one of the sodium skimmers Dready :)

Last I heard Mick the Fagor was going to be available in Oz, that was a conversation I overheard in our local Kitchen Warehouse so may or may not be correct - the guy asking was on a similar quest for original KFC at home :)
