AOC flat screen external brick psu
« on: September 13, 2012, 09:40:32 AM »
I've had a very nice 23" AOC screen for about three years now.

A few weeks back it started struggling to start up, then yesterday it refused to at all.

It's a little unusual in having an external psu which should be at 12v/5A DC output, it meters, even under that small a load, at just over 12v but only just over 4A. Unplug it from the monitor its power indicator light is solid on, plug it in it slow flashes. So I suspect it's just a PSU issue, when it did start it was fine.

Time to have a look in the scrap pile but if not anyone know where you can get these? Ought not to be anything expensive to prove the theory.

Cheers

No help from me. I've got an old 19 inch ViewSonic LCD.

I've had it since around 2006.

I'm going to get something newer and bigger as soon as I get a job but what I have plugs straight in, no kind of converter and and I've got an even older CRT on my bench that also plugs straight in and so like I said, zero help from me.

Yeah, looked at that one Cael, wrong input plug so I'd have to mess around. No biggee but have contacted AOC direct they are getting back to me.

It is in my experience a bit unusual to have an external supply Jamie and I've rarely seen one fail, but, provided it is this then a plus on this occasion because the monitor would be a bastard to get into to repair/replace an internal PSU.

It COULD be an inverter in the body of the monitor to provide the five volt feed, but I'm hoping not and the readings off the meter suggest it is the PSU.

:)

Not really my way LD, if it is as simple as I think it is then the monitor has a lot of life in it yet.

I'm a bit bemused that in my ridiculous collection of bits and pieces I don't have a PSU with the correct specs, but seems not.

Ordinarily I probably would just replace it, but work has been a bit skinny this year so conserving funds.

I'll have a look around but I seriously doubt I have what you need.

As I said before I've never previously even heard of a monitor with an external PSU.

I will get your other stuff in the mail sometime this week.

I'm still not feeling 100%, tomorrow is my mother's birthday and the remnants of Hurricane Isaac left about two inches of water in my basement and so I've not gotten around to going to the post office.

 :)

No rush, pump out the basement :)

I doubt you would have a suitable supply, its a little rare and remember we are 240V.

No ache, AOC are being pretty good about it.
