Hello from the USA
« on: November 19, 2011, 02:20:11 AM »
Hello all.  This looks like a fun place.

I'm into off-road 4x4's, often called rock-crawlers here.  I also have a couple Motorcycles.  While lots of my friends favor Harley Davidson's, I find that they break down too often.  I prefer Honda for a street bike, and Husqvarna for my dirt bike.  Unfortunately, Husqvarna is pretty pricy, so I currently have a Honda for that role too.

It's a shame the spammers have made it necessary to require a CAPTCHA for this post.  It is such a pain in the ass!

I can assure you all, I am not an alien form outer space, just the US Air Force!

Hi,

We hate CAPTCHA as well, but the spam was getting bad.

With that mix of interests you should fit right in around here, although expect the HD lovers to scream a little :)

I'm ex air-force - what's your role in the USAF ?

Cheers

I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of your crawlers and bikes.

Here's one of my bikes.

In the USAF I service the KC-135 Stratotanker and the KC-10 Extender.  For those who don't know these planes, they are essentially flying gas pumps.  They are used to complete air-to-air refuelings.

And yeah, the HD lovers can give me all the shit they want for having Jap bikes.  But I get to laugh whenever they have their HD's in the shop.

When I have a minute I'll get some pictures of my rides up for you all to see.

The flying gas stations, utter lifesavers, thee's a story or two of mine around here, involving tankers, I used to fly fighters but it was a long time ago, before the KC-10 but took a drink from many a KC-135.

I was in the RAF, so also tanked from the old Victors but I did a couple of exchanges with the USAF.

The founder of this place, who has been rather busy of late, is the quintessential Harley lover, but somehow I doubt his winds up in the shop often, Richo wields his own spanners :)

My own secret love is Ducatis but my now wife would kill me if I were to buy another one, I've also had Triumphs and a Norton - which probably makes me as much of a masochist as a Hartley owner :) However at 59 this year my wife is probably right, the Peugeot 307 suits me fine :)

Mind telling us where you are based?

Cheers

Welcome from another American and one who is, for the moment, running the tech side of this forum.  :-*

I agree with you on both CAPTCHA and the verification questions being annoying.

I especially dislike CAPTCHA.

Unfortunately, without those features, we'd be being overrun with spambots.

I'm actually a bit perplexed as to how the occasional bot is getting around the "Are you an alien from outer space?" one, but they are.

Once you successfully registered though, you shouldn't be seeing any other kind of challenges to your posts and so if you are, let me know and I'll take a look at the settings.

Anyway, again, welcome to our little virtual club.  :-*

Where everything out here ain't what it seems
When I'm down to nothing, I just go ahead and dream
And face the fact that I'm a circle in a world full of squares

Welcome to Australian humour as well - although fuknK1 is actually even worse - he's a Kiwi - although lives here in Western Australia :)
