My Mother's Macaroni and Cheese

This is the macaroni and cheese my mother made when I was growing up.


16 ounces large elbow macaroni; 8 ounces evaporated milk; 18 pieces sliced American cheese; 1 teaspoon salt; sleeve of saltine crackers.


Cook macaroni according to package directions and drain.

Place layer of macaroni in a casserole dish. Add half the  Evaporated milk and salt and then nine slices of cheese.

Place second layer of macaroni. Add remaining milk, salt and cheese.

Bake in 350 degree oven until cheese melts.

Add sleeve of crumbled crackers and brown under broiler.
