Lexington Vinegar Sauce

There is an age old debate about whether barbecue sauces should be sweet or sour. Personally, I MUCH prefer sweet sauces, but here's a good one for those who lean the other way.

Lexington Vinegar Sauce

2 1/2 cups cider vinegar; 1/2 cup ketchup; 2 tablespoons brown sugar; 1 tablespoon hot sauce; 4 teaspoons salt; 4 teaspoons hot red pepper flakes; 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper; 1 teaspoon white pepper; 1 1/2 teaspoons barbecue rub

Combine all ingredients in a large nonreactive bowl with 1/2 cup water. Whisk until the sugar and salt dissolve. Can be stored in a large glass jar in the refrigerator for several weeks.
