Not that easy anymore..

Most places will not even open til Queens B'day long weekend. (10th June)

Unless said person has pyrotechnic licence that is..

Best I can offer is a few multicolour sparklers..

Either that, or fill balloons with hydrogen and whack a sparkler in the knot of the balloon.  Light sparkler..  Release..  Wait for loud boom and pretty fireball..

Seen the latest Mythbusters? (last Thursdays ep)

Grab an old hot water heater - cheaper and better than any stupid fireworks.

Hydrogen balloons:

1. bucket cold water
2. pack baloons
3. dunny roll
4. caustic soda powder
5. watering can
6. longnecks
7. roll of aluminium foil

Best @ nightime on a still evening)

step1 - drink longneck and stand empty in bucket water (only 1/5th full - acts like heatsink)
step2- tip in a couple tablespoons caustic into bottle
step3- scrunch up alfoil into small balls.. small enough to load into bottle... chuck in 1/2 dozen or so (not an exact science)
step4- add small amount of water via wateringcan down bottle neck
step5- snap a balloon over the bottle neck and hold it there as you marvel at the ferocity of the reaction
step6- tie off balloon when full, knotting in a 6ft length of bog roll
step7- have assistant light bog roll 1 microsecond before you release it
step8- giggle like a dickhead at the pretty blue hydrogen flashes as the balloons ignite overhead.

LOL..  Hydrogen balloons are fun..

We do the same..  To improve the effect immensely:

Have the reaction chamber (The beer bottle with the caustic soda and aluminium foil) lead into a pipe.  (Seal completely)

This pipe then goes into the BOTTOM of a "pop top" drink bottle.  Fill bottle with water (to about 1/2" from top).  Snap balloon on top of pop top bottle.

The purpose of running through the water is to remove the steam element from the hydrogen..  Results in a cleaner "CO2" build up without steam.  Bigger boom..

Next trick:

Tie a sparkler into the knot of the balloon.  Light sparkler and release..

Watch as sparkler floats off into the night and then the sparkler hits the balloon..  *WHOOMBA*
