Woah .. AD ... I had no idea brewing beer was such an exacting science (probably why I sucked at it) ...

Golden larger (or ale) + malt = WINNER !!!

Oh yeah..  Looking good..

Obviously, the first stage (Before fermentation) only gives a hint at the flavour.  So far, it tastes good though.  It had a beautiful smell whilst boiling, so the aroma should be nice.  As for head retention.  This has every sign that it will hold the head til the last sip.

Initial Guesstimate: 6 - 7% alcohol.

Well, our end of year calendar is starting to firm up and both Mrs H and I should be able to make it over for some brewskis. It will be better for us if you can organise it for a Friday or Saturday night, but we'll still show up on a school night, it will just mean a shorter stay.

Looking forward to it.

And..  Because I can..  There'll be a second beer on tap.. A Brown Ale..  (Even smoking the malt ourselves..  And does it raise the same image in your head as it raises in mine?   ;D)

Addition:

There may only be 1 beer on tap..

The step brewed lager is too fucking nice..   :-X

Not that I'm saying it's "Too nice for knobs like you"..   ;D

I'm just saying..  You have one..  Next thing you know..  You've refilled about 4 times..

It's just the smoothest lager I've ever had in my life..

Sucks to be you..

Well..  It appears that drinking the beer and brewing the next batch was the right choice.

I finished the 2nd brew last night..

Tell you..  It wasn't a simple one again..

This one has been dubbed "Stormy Smokey Ale"

Why?

Because it was brewed in the middle of a storm with smoked malt.  (Yes.  Smoked the malt myself).

The flavour on initial testing is AWESOME!  (Will see how it goes after fermenting of course).

SG (Starting Gravity) = 1048
Expected FG (Final Gravity) = 1015 - 1020.

Should be about a 5.5 - 6% beer.  Depending on what happens.

If anything, this beer is slightly stronger (by approx .2 - .4%).

The other one is good.  But it goes down too easy.  *sip*

The results are in..

The beer is 5.2%

Taste?  FWOAR!!!  And this is without aging.  20 litres kegged.  10 stubbies bottled.  The runoff of the kegging hose fed into a glass and tasted..

Got the smokey part almost dead on perfect.  The ale?  Beautiful.

Should go down PERFECTLY with a bbq..  Think about it.  Instead of a smokey sauce on your steaks, you can have a steak with a smokey beer to wash it down..

I'm sure we can live with Monday.  Fenn and I can..

The beer will still be good by then..  I have had 300 mls or there abouts from the top of the keg to confirm that it is good.  No more..  I've been a good boy..  Despite the tempation..  I can still hear the keg calling me..
