I guess you all appreciate that he is doing that on military power, ie. No afterburner?

The -22 is an astonishing airplane, pity it is so expensive, but it's understandable.

I had a report a few weeks back from a mate who has been doing some exercises against the -22, he has been an Eagle driver for over a decade. He simply could not get his nose onto the -22, lost every bout. I know the guy well, he is one excellent pilot, if he can't beat it I doubt anyone can.

Received this from a mate this morning, ouch is right.....

You're right, it doesn't. I've seen that one before and it always amazes me. The crashes that some of these drivers survive boggles the mind.

Good picks, BC - hard to find good ones where some idiot hasn't put some bullshit death metal soundtrack to it.

And then you get the teenyprats with their sparkler bombs and the rest - meh...

Su-33 Splash

Arresting cable snap: (731kB)

Watch as the arresting cable snaps on the deck of the Admiral Kuznetsov when an SU-33 attempts to make an arrested landing.

EDIT: I googled "Admiral Kuznetsov su-33 crash 2005"

Wiki: "Due to the plane's reportedly containing secret high-tech military equipment, Russian authorities have decided to destroy it using underwater bombs. (Pravda.Ru), (Aftenposten)"

What the hell BC?

Which Navy was that? Can't make out the insignia, India?

That missed catch is a bit intriguing, you ALWAYS go 100% on trap just in case you miss the wires, guess he didn't.....

I never flew off carriers, but I have still managed to have the nightmare that guy lived, banging out right in front of a carrier bearing down on you.

Cheers

Chris details found! First post updated.

Random photo find for the day: Sinking Carrier

According to the submitter, "The decommissioned aircraft carrier USS Oriskany sinks in the Gulf of Mexico 24 miles off the coast of Pensacola, Fla., May 17, 2006. The 32,000-ton, 888-foot ship, which took 37 minutes to sink, is the largest ship ever intentionally sunk as an artificial reef."

Some nice footage from the French carrier Charles de Gaulle - good clear shots of the hook in action.

Jeez I'll bet that Russian guy was thankful for the zero-zero seat

Great pic of the Oriskany

:)  I had not picked it as the Kuznetsov, mainly because last time I looked she was not ski ramped. I do believe she is up on blocks right now as well, a little too expensive for Russia to deploy.

So that's what happened to the Oriskany... A fitting end. I have a couple of mates who operated Skyhawks off her way back then, a very lucky ship they always said.

Black, that clip is a delight, just watched it three times....:)  I guess you guys know how much I like anything from Dassault, watching those guys trap is magic. Interesting as well... I've never been on a French carrier ( I assume it is the DeGaulle) but it seems they use the same colour codes for deck crew as the USN does.

What was most impressive though was to watch the Entendard launch... Cannot recall ever before seeing a catapulted aircraft actually airborne before the end of the deck :)

Cheers

Brilliant site, Hardman - but your dark secret is out :

#  Maverick Av8tor says:
November 3rd, 2004 at 1:25 am

Jurgis Kairys was not ‘busted’ for flying under the bridges because it was a sanctioned display. You can get the drum on him here http://www.jkairys.com/english/index.htm
I saw him fly at the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow in April (Easter) this year and the mans ability is unequalled. It also helps having worked for the Sukhoi design bureau and designing and building your own aircraft (The Su-26, 28 and 31) He flew the 31 in NZ “The Kaibutsu” - additionally, having 400hp on a 2.6m dia prop on a fuselage that is stripped of paint each time it is repainted (talk about ‘anal’ on weight) allows you to ‘hang on the prop’ just like a helicopter, I have seen this and it is truly amazing.
Note ; He is doing around 250kmh inverted under those bridges and the outside push loop he executes on entry exerts negative G forces strong enough to burst capilliaries in your face and affect your vision somewhat…

He is coming to a country airshow down here (in Western Australia) in march next year and I will fly from the city to the country airshow strip just to see him….
If he comes to your part of the world, sell your wife and go see him..!!!!

Mate... Not sure what dark secret that is....

He's good, very good, if it is anywhere close to Perth I'll go watch, but not at the expense of FE, pales utterly in comparison...

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I grew up spending some time being taught by Jan Zurakowski, who could have run rings around any pilot on earth, and I THINK I am the only pilot around who has flown an F-4 THROUGH a bridge, in Germany.....

Eh.. I just don't impress too easy in the Flying Game.... :-)

Some good ones in there Chris.

Some vids for us wanna-be pilots:

- G-LOC
- Same
- And again

- Mirage 2000. Nice footage, pity they fuck it up by putting it to music
(watch it right to the last second)
SU-33 NAVY stuff
- Building an SU-30
- Swiss Propaganda
- F-16s doing their thang
- Who likes afterburners? Mig -29 @ dusk
- F-18 bad landing
- Building a Rafel
- A-6 losing an engine or external fuel tank? Chris?
- F-22 Flyby
- F-22 aerobatics (not all that good)

Goddammit I hope the rumours are true, and we see the F-22 at Avalon next year!

Hmm... went straight to the one you asked me a question on... Seemed like a bit of a dribble of a launch in the first place, but he WAS airborne.

A-6 engines are embedded, so no way that was an engine, hard to figure out how it could be anyway....My best guess would be that whilst he was airborne he was not really at flying speed, that can happen, check the web for Papa India, a BE Trident that went down out of Heathrow about '71 I think. A mate of mine who missed that flight by minutes is still in a state of blessedness....

I'd guess he could not accelerate and as a desperation measure was letting the tanks go to try to get weight off and speed up. I have, briefly, flown an A-6, but I can't recall if you can punch off both tanks at once, from the tape I would guess not, and as a result letting one go brought a wing up and he lost it.....

Horribly low ejections, I hope they made it.....

Cheers

Edit: Actually, as a pilot I'll add two things to that, and they are not criticisms of the guy at the stick: It happens real fast, you do what feels right.

He was trying to climb, I'd guess he did not have the airspeed, should have gone down, not up, but it happens..

If the tanks cannot be punched off together, well, really doesn't matter, he punched off the wrong one, he was already in a right bank....Letting the other one go could have changed rather a lot....

One day I might find a way to describe how fast your thoughts have to be to keep up with an airplane, most so called pilot error is more a case of lack of data for mind to process or lack of identification of the data in the first place.
